【摘要】:TheengineeringfunctionofmanyPMpartsmayrequireanexteriorportionoftheparttohaveahardenedlayer.Wherecasehardeningproducesadistincttransitioninthemicrostructure,metallographicestimationoftheobservedcasedepthmaybeusedtocheckthedepthtowhichthesurfacehasbeenhardened.1.1Ametallographicmethodisdescribedforestimatingtheobservedcasedepthofferrouspowdermetallurgy(PM)parts.Thismethodmaybeusedforalltypesofhardenedcaseswherethereisadiscernibledifferencebetweenthemicrostructureofthehardenedsurfaceandthatoftheinteriorofthepart.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
